Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has urged FSG to make enquiries to bring Erling Braut Haaland and Jude Bellingham to Anfield next summer.

The Reds are looking back to their best this season after a tough 2020-21 campaign, but there’s always scope to bring in more top players.

And Borussia Dortmund duo Haaland and Bellingham are two of the most highly rated young players in world football at present.

Haaland, at just 21, is already one of the most prolific strikers in the world.

The Norwegian currently has a record of more than a goal per game at two clubs – Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg.

Haaland reportedly has a release clause that will become active next summer.

Meanwhile, Bellingham is just 18 but has already clocked up 70 competitive Dortmund appearances.

In addition, he has won 10 England caps.

This season, the former Birmingham prodigy has three goals and nine assists from 24 BVB appearances.

Both players are likely to trigger a transfer frenzy next year, particularly in the summer.

“Going to be a star”

Thompson acknowledges that Liverpool will have a lot of competition for Haaland and Bellingham.

Nonetheless, he wants the Anfield outfit to at least be in the race.

“If it was me, things are going well, but we did have issues in centre-mid with the boys,” Thompson wrote in The Express.

“Maybe somebody in that area, because that’s where the energy levels come from with our team. So that.

“I would think up front, I’d think you’d need more back-up.

“I think that’s going to be a big area where we sort of need to make sure.

“And I’d like to think our hat is going to be in the ring for some of the big players that are going to be about.

“Haaland is one, even Bellingham, who I think is going to be a star.

“These players, I just want us to be asking questions, we need to be in there, and hopefully we are saving our money for a big one.”
