Phil Neville has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier is one of five players he wants former side Manchester United to sign in the summer.
England midfielder, Dier, has endured a somewhat difficult season at Spurs. The 25-year-old has suffered a number of injuries, limiting him to just 23 appearances in all competitions.
He did play 17 minutes of England’s 5-0 win over the Czech Republic, but was ruled out of the second clash against Montenegro with a muscle problem. It remains to be seen if he will be fit for Sunday’s clash against Liverpool.
Manchester United icon picked the five players he would like to see United sign, and despite Toby Alderweireld being constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford, he picked Dier ahead of the Belgian defender.
Neville also wants Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane, Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo.
Dier’s head may be somewhat swayed with a move to Old Trafford. Only two years left on his Tottenham contract, Dier may want a new challenge after a difficult season in north London.
His place in the England side has slipped – as has his foothold in Spurs’ team. Harry Winks is certainly first choice above the ex-Sporting Lisbon man now.
The Telegraph claimed in the summer of 2017 that Manchester United want to sign Dier and were told to pay £50million for his services. Dier will surely not cost the same amount this time around.
