Phil Neville outlines why he feels Wolves may have some regrets from Chelsea draw

Wolves continued their impressive record this season against sides in the Premier League’s top six with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

Only a late Eden Hazard goal denied Nuno Santo’s men all three points but a disciplined display ensured that the Old Gold remained unbeaten on their travels to London this season.

Big performances against the top sides have been a feature of Wolves’ return to the top flight but BBC pundit and England women’s manager Phil Neville was critical of the lack of ambition shown at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Sunday 10 March, 11:19pm, Neville said: “I actually didn’t think they showed that much ambition to try and win the game.”

“Today, when Hazard scored late on, I wondered if any of those players went back to the dressing room and thought ‘if we’d been a little bit more adventurous, against a Chelsea side that’s nervy…’ they could have had two or three goals.

“That’s the next step for Nuno and his side; with the money they’ve spent, start to dominate.”

Neville’s criticism feels slightly harsh; Wolves carried out a gameplan that has been successful all season against the big boys and were minutes away from a huge win.

He is right that Wolves do need to continue to progress – but that should still be to come – and a draw away at Chelsea remains an outstanding result for a newly-promoted side.
