Everton boss Marco Silva has received support from a player he let leave the club this summer as scrutiny over his job at Goodison Park increases.
The Toffees lost 2-0 to Sheffield United at the weekend in a disappointing display at Goodison Park.
One player who came on in the game for the opponents was Phil Jagielka. The former Everton captain rejoined his boyhood club on a free transfer in the summer after Everton decided not to renew his contract on Merseyside.
Jagielka, who saw his playing time diminish under the management of Silva, could easily hold a grudge against the Portuguese. However, he had a good working relationship with Silva at Everton and, as reported by the Daily Mail, stated after the game this weekend that the Everton boss deserves more time in charge.
“There is no point chopping and changing.”
Last season Silva found himself under pressure midway through the season after a string of poor results. However, he managed to turn things around for Everton toward the end of the season, where they put in a string of impressive performances against some of the league’s biggest teams.
So there is no doubt that he is capable of turning things around at Goodison Park and Jagielka feels he deserves a chance.
Unfortunately for Silva, that feeling is not shared by many fans.
