Phil Hay says £10m-rated midfielder is a player Leeds have looked at
Phil Hay has told his podcast that Leeds United have looked at a possible move to sign Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. The French ace is out of contract at the end of the season, and could leave on the cheap.
Kamara, 22, has been excellent for Marseille. Coming through the academy, the France Under-21 star has already clocked up 143 career appearances for the Ligue 1 side – whether that is in defence, or in midfield.
But it is clear that Kamara wants to go, and non-French sides can sign the midfielder on a pre-contract agreement right now. It would see him join Leeds, or another team, at the end of the season.
The Mail claimed Leeds were interested – while The Sun report that Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown interest. Hay delivers an update. He says Leeds have taken a look, but a January move is unlikely.
“I’ve seen Kamara at Marseille has been linked. He would be good, I think they’ve looked at him. I don’t get that the impression they’re on with that one or that they will do anything there,” Hay said.
Hay on Kamara: Leeds missing a trick when it comes to Marseille ace?
Kamara is just what Leeds need. Of the areas in the squad that require strengthening, you would argue the middle of the park is most in need of recruitment. While Leeds have four centre-backs, another might be helpful.
That is largely down to the proneness of injury of Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente. So, bringing in a player that be utilised in both roles makes sense. Kamara would be ideal.
Reports suggest a £10million fee could get him this window, but on a free in the summer – with a pre-season under Marcelo Bielsa or a potential new boss – Kamara would thrive.
