Phil Hay: Leeds star Jack Harrison has been struggling with a rib injury

Athletic reporter Phil Hay claims says Leeds winger Jack Harrison has been struggling with a rib injury, despite starting the last two games.

Harrison, 24, was sensational for Leeds last season – having a hand in 16 goals during 36 Premier League outings. He scored eight, and created eight.

But this season, the England Under-21 international is yet to provide one goal involvement in seven league appearances. He is lacking momentum.

Indeed, the ex-Manchester City star – who joined Leeds permanently in the summer after three seasons on loan – also suffered a positive test result.

On Saturday, he was at fault for Hwang Hee-chan’s goal – as Leeds drew 1-1 with Wolves. Harrison dived in on Nelson Semedo, failing to stop him.

Now, Hay explains a possible reason for Harrison’s struggling form – and that is he is suffering with a rib injury, in the comments on a recent piece.

“Harrison has had a rib injury recently. Little been made of it and I don’t know how much of a factor it is but he is struggling for form,” Hay said.

Hay on Harrison: Leeds star needs a rest, starting tonight at Arsenal

Leeds travel south to take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Marcelo Bielsa has paid more attention to the cup competitions this term.

But the Premier League remains the main focus, especially after just one win in nine games. Leeds need points, and Harrison must get back to 100%.

Bielsa has shown that Dan James, Raphinha and Harrison can all combine – with the Brazilian playing in the 10 role. To start, Harrison must rest.

The English winger needs to be left out of the side that faces Arsenal. Raphinha got a knock on Saturday and might also be given time to recover.

So, perhaps Crysencio Summerville starts at the Emirates, with James on the other flank. Fans will also be hoping to see Joe Gelhardt start.
