'Phenomenal': Some Aston Villa fans hail 27-year-old's display v Crystal Palace

A number of Aston Villa fans have lauded Marvelous Nakamba following his superb performance against Crystal Palace today.

The previously struggling Villans made it two wins in a row as they ran out 2-1 winners over the Eagles in London.

Steven Gerrard has quickly got Villa back to their best as they ended Palace’s seven-match unbeaten run.

The Villans took the lead after just 15 minutes.

Ashley Young’s corner fell to Matt Targett, who shifted the ball onto his left foot and fired home through a pack of bodies.

Villa had to wait until the 86th minute to double their lead, weathering a storm to net through John McGinn.

The Scotland international rounded off a smart move with a first-time effort from just outside the box which found the corner of the net.

Palace didn’t have a single shot on target until the final ten minutes, but they made things tense for Villa by halving the deficit late on through marc Guehi.

Gerrard has done a great job of shoring up the Villa defence, and Nakamba has proven crucial in protecting the back line.

The 27-year-old, who struggled at times under Dean Smith, was once again immense for Villa as he took the sting out of Palace’s attacks time and time again.
