Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips came of age as England beat Croatia 1-0 in their Euro 2020 opener, earning praise from Ian Wright.
The Whites player was handed the chance to start alongside Declan Rice in the Three Lions engine room.
He didn’t disappoint and provided the assist for Raheem Sterling to score England’s winning goal in the second half.

The 25-year-old from Leeds has enjoyed a fine season under Marcelo Bielsa.
He has made 31 appearances for the Whites, providing Leeds with lots of energy from midfield.
After yesterday’s superb performance Ian Wright took to Instagram to wax lyrical about the midfielder.

Wright knows a thing or two about playing for England. He made 33 appearances in the famous white jersey, scoring nine goals.
Phillips is on his way towards becoming a regular for England. After playing in last week’s warm-up game against Romania, he kept his place for the Croatia clash.
He didn’t disappoint and Gareth Southgate will have been delighted with his contribution.
Phillips was up against Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic and Luka Modric yesterday in a real battle.
Both he and Rice stood firm though, allowing the nation to see what Leeds fans have been watching all season.
Phillips stock rises: Can Leeds keep hold of him?
You have to say they probably can. Getting him to stay at Leeds won’t be a tricky sell, given how much love he has for the club.
As long as the Whites remain ambitious and match Phillips’ desires, keeping him at Elland Road should be easy.

Other clubs will come calling though. Now he starring on the international stage that only seems natural.
Leeds enjoyed a good maiden campaign back in the top-flight.
As long as they continue kicking on then Phillips would relish the chance to stay with Leeds for the foreseeable.
