‘Phenomenal’: David Seaman amazed by 25-year-old Arsenal man’s strength, says he knocks players off the ball

David Seaman has told The Chronicles of a Gooner Podcast that he’s been amazed by Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus’ strength – and says he simply knocks players off the ball.

Jesus has been pivotal to Arsenal’s strong start to the season and has slotted in seamlessly after making the switch from Manchester City over the summer.

The 25-year-old got off to a flying start in terms of his goals, but has struggled to find the back of the net recently.

Jesus hasn’t managed to score in his last six Premier League appearances but Seaman says he isn’t worried about his goalless run.

Seaman amazed by Jesus

The Arsenal legend appeared on The Chronicles of a Gooner Podcast yesterday and was asked if Jesus’ goal drought is a cause for concern.

“No, not at all because like you say it’s not like he’s not contributing. He’s missing a few chances,” Seaman responded.

“Even at the weekend, he hit the bar so he’s just been a bit unlucky at the moment in-front of goal.

“What he needs is a two foot tap-in, that’ll get his confidence back. So come on lads, help him out, set him up, let’s get him away from this ten-goal not scoring streak.

“When you look at him, especially at the start of the season, you see the difference that he brought. As small as he looks, he can really look after himself and he can really shield the ball.

“We’ve seen him knocking defenders off the ball who are almost twice the size of him. But what he’s brought, and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko, what he’s brought to the team are two marquee players I call them. Finished article players, which was two great signings for the club.

“We’ve got a young squad and a young team. It’s slowly getting experience but they’re now seeing in training and games what it needs to be a league or medal winner.”

Seaman feels that both Jesus and Zinchenko have helped to completely transform the young Arsenal squad’s mentality.

He added: “With them two, I just thought it was perfect. The impact they’ve had has been brilliant but the impact they’ve had on the rest of the team has been phenomenal.”

Jesus has been unlucky in recent weeks but he contributes so much more than just goals.

The Brazilian is bringing the very best out of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, while leading by example with his relentless work-rate.

He’s been getting in brilliant positions but just hasn’t got the rub of the green of late.

Jesus will be hoping to get back amongst the goals at the World Cup over the next month and return to north London full of confidence.
