Peterborough United have completed the signing of Daniel Lafferty on loan until the end of the season.
Lafferty joins promotion chasing Peterborough from Sheffield United, having found game time hard to come by at Bramall Lane.
Enda Stevens is preferred to Lafferty at left-wing-back but he is a more than useful option for Posh.
With vast experience at League One level, Lafferty could prove to be a shrewd signing that edges Peterborough closer to promotion.
But the 29-year-old’s arrival could be a major kick in the teeth for left-back rival Tyler Denton.
Posh already have Denton on a season-long loan from Leeds and now he faces a real battle for his spot.
The 23-year-old would have hoped for plenty of game time this season to stake a claim for a first-team place at Leeds.
But he has only played nine games for Steve Evans’ men so far, including six league matches.
However, he was recalled to the starting line-up for last Saturday’s win over Accrington Stanley and then he started the following game against Scunthorpe United.
Denton would have been eyeing a regular run in the side after back-to-back starts but Lafferty’s arrival is untimely.
Just as the ex-England under-17 defender wrestled his spot back, he faces tough competition to keep it.
If he is not playing at Peterborough, his future as a Leeds player looks increasingly bleak.
