Aston Villa’s relegation battle took another hit yesterday as they were comprehensively beaten by in-form Manchester United at Villa Park.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, and Paul Pogba did the damage, leaving Dean Smith’s side languishing in 19th, four points from Watford in 17th and safety with just four games left.
But Aston Villa fans are right to be disappointed with the opening goal of the game.

Bruno Fernandes went down in the area under the challenge of Kortney Hause and referee Jon Moss immediately pointed to the spot. After a VAR review, the decision stood and Fernandes duly slotted home from 12 yards.
However, it was undoubtedly a harsh decision against Aston Villa. Fernandes appeared to step on Hause and take a tumble.
The case for Aston Villa was even fought by a Manchester United legend online. Peter Schmeichel, who also spent a season at Villa Park later in his career, was adamant on Twitter that the decision should have reversed after the use of VAR.
Whilst Schmeichel does have some allegiance to Aston Villa, his bias would surely lean toward United considering his near 400 games and numerous honours won with the Red Devils.
Unfortunately for Villa, who have had a mixed bag with VAR decisions this season, this one went against them and they face a massive final four games of the season to secure Premier League survival.
