Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has delivered a stern verdict on the Red Devils following their Premier League loss at West Ham.
Erik ten Hag’s charges fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Hammers at the London Stadium, their fourth consecutive game without a win.
West Ham opened the scoring in the 72nd minute as the in-form Jarrod Bowen bundled past Andre Onana following a superb Lucas Paqueta assist.
Just six minutes later, David Moyes’ charges doubled their advantage when Mohamed Kudus made the most of Kobbie Mainoo’s error to fire into the bottom corner.

Man United have now won just one of their last seven games in all competitions and have scored just once in their last six outings.
Needless to say, things aren’t great at Old Trafford at present. And Schmeichel, speaking to Premier League Productions (23/12/23, 14:31), is at a loss to explain what’s happening.
The Man United icon believes West Ham had a game plan, stuck to it and pounced at the right times. However, he has no idea what the Red Devils had in mind.
“West Ham had a plan playing this game and stuck to it and waited for the opportunities,” said Schmeichel. “When they came they took them.
“You can discuss from now until the end of the day what Man Utd’s plan was, I still don’t know. I don’t think I’ve seen them play this badly for a long time.”
Manchester United in dire straits as West Ham
Credit to West Ham for how they did. After Moyes received some criticism for the midweek Carabao Cup loss, this latest display and result will surely silence the doubters.
That’s in stark contrast to Man United. The Red Devils look directionless and rudderless under Ten Hag.
At the same time, would sacking him and bringing someone else in make that much of a difference? The team needs a major overhaul, much like what Mikel Arteta did at Arsenal.
West Ham are next in action on Thursday 28 December with a trip to Arsenal, while Man United host Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
