Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has been praised by Premier League legend Peter Schmeichel, who says the Gunners attacker is an “interesting” player who has so many great qualities.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stratospheric rise to the top of the game over the past two years, and is now one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet.

Saka made his Arsenal breakthrough in 2019-20, clocking up 39 appearances in all competitions and weighing in with four goals and 11 assists.

This season, meanwhile, he has registered 27 appearances across all competitions, scoring five and assisting four.

Saka has been one of his side’s best performers over the past season and a half, a pillar of quality and consistency in a team that has blown hot and cold far too much.

“It’s safe to say they (Arsenal) have massively underperformed this season, but he hasn’t,” Schmeichel told the Premier League YouTube channel.

“He’s 19 years of age, I can’t even remember off the top of my head how many times he’s been man of the match for Arsenal.

“It’s a lot to put on somebody so young’s shoulders, but this guy, I mean whoa.

“He’s an interesting player, we’ve seen with all the great teams that you can think about, you have players like that who can dribble, who are quick.

“He can cross a ball with quality, he can switch sides, he’s strong, he’s physically very strong… they are players you want to build your future on.”

Fans, pundits and peers are running out of superlatives for Saka, a player of the highest calibre who, let’s not forget, is still just 19 and is most likely capable of so much more as he continues to progress, develop and gain more experience.

Arsenal may have had a bit of a rollercoaster season so far this term – as was the case in 2019-20 – but things look to be heading in the right direction as a club, and having Saka in the ranks is such a boost.
