Peter Crouch has raved over Tottenham Hotspur teenager Ryan Sessegnon on BT Sport after the winger scored his first goal for Spurs on Wednesday night, in a 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Sessegnon, 19, has been forced to overcome plenty of injury problems since joining the club for £25million from Fulham in the summer. It has limited the England Under-21 international to just four Spurs appearances.
On Wednesday night, though, Jose Mourinho handed Sessegnon his first Spurs start with the clash being a dead rubber at the Allianz Arena. Sessegnon took control of a bouncing ball to lash home an effort from 12 yards past, scoring past Manuel Neuer.
Former Tottenham striker Crouch has heaped praise on Sessegnon and his calmness in front of goal, taking into account that Sessegnon has spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines through injury.
“We didn’t see much from him in the second half, but we didn’t see much from Tottenham to be quite honest, in the second half,” Crouch said. “He took his goal really, really well. Having been out for so long, he could have easily slashed at that.
“But he’s waited, couple of bounces, easily onside, took his time and lashed it. Great finish.”
TBR’s view – Should Sessegnon feature against Wolves this weekend?
Spurs face a difficult trip to the Midlands to take on Wolves at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, and Mourinho’s men may not dominate possession as much as they would like to. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are very good in keeping the ball.
Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and plenty of other Wolves stars are more than capable of keeping the ball. So, if Spurs are to win, they need to play on the counter and including speed in attack is crucial – so Sessegnon should be given a go.
