Peter Crouch praises versastile Liverpool star James Milner

Peter Crouch has delivered a glowing verdict on Liverpool star James Milner, who he feels is underrated due to his versatility and has suggested he is often overlooked.

The 34-year-old part of a Reds squad that have already wrapped up the Premier League crown this season and he will soon be picking up his third title medal, with the previous two coming at former club Manchester City.

He’s also won the Champions League and FA Cup during a sparkling career, which is still going strong at his age and it’s a testament to his incredible conditioning.

Despite not being a nailed-on starter in Jurgen Klopp’s XI this season, the English central midfielder has still made 34  appearances across all competitions and rarely puts a foot wrong during that time.

His versatility to effortlessly slot in at either full-back position has been so important during his time at Anfield, plus he used to be a skilful winger in the early stages of his career.

“When a player is labelled versatile, it can do them a disservice — people don’t really appreciate what they bring to a team, seeing them as someone who can do a few trades, but master none,” ex-Liverpool forward Crouch told the Daily Mail.

“With James, though, I can say he has absolutely mastered his career — just look at his medal collection.”

TBR’s View:

Liverpool’s team is stacked with world-class talents that have driven them to new heights in the past couple of years, but Milner has certainly played his role within that and looks to be majorly trusted by his manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Leeds-born midfielder brings a wealth of experience to the group that surely plays a massive role off the pitch, plus people often forget he was a regular starter last season during the club’s successful Champions League journey.

His contract with the Merseyside giants is due to expire in 2022 and there is no reason why he can’t continue being an unsung hero moving into the next campaign.
