Peter Crouch makes Patrick Bamford claim after Leeds star's England call-up
Peter Crouch has told the Daily Mail that Patrick Bamford has everything and shared how the Leeds United star was worried that an England call-up would never come.
Bamford was included in Gareth Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad. It comes after he was left out of the fold for Euro 2020 despite a stunning first year in the Premier League with Leeds.
He scored 17 times in the top flight. He also provided eight assists for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Nevertheless, Southgate decided against calling him up this summer.
And Crouch provided an insight into how Bamford was starting to feel about his international prospects before the call came.
“Patrick Bamford is unlucky that this is only his first England call-up and I know he was a bit worried about ever getting in the squad,” he told the Daily Mail.
“I watched him at Crystal Palace last year. He scored an unbelievable goal that was ruled out by VAR, and then the hat-trick at Villa Park.
“It is obvious he has everything. Quick enough, great in the air, elegant on the ball and a top finisher. He has a chance of staying in that England set-up.”
Bamford has quality to silence doubters once again after England call-up
Bamford has had to deal with criticism and doubts throughout his career.
At Leeds, some of it has been justified. He did miss a lot of chances as the Whites secured promotion in 2020.
But he has been outstanding in the top flight. And he has arguably been Leeds’ best player across their last few games.
He opened his account for this season with a clever finish against Burnley on Sunday. And he has already contributed two assists in all competitions.
There is no doubt that some will never warm to the idea of Bamford making the England squad. He has tended to be a divisive figure throughout his career.
But do not be surprised if he handles the step up in the same way he has dealt with playing in the Premier League with Leeds.
