Mo Salah sealed Liverpool’s passage into the knockout stages of the Champions League with the second goal in the 2-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg last night.
It was an open encounter in Austria as the Reds had to stave off some dangerous moments from their hosts, but when Naby Keita opened the scoring on 57 minutes, Salah piled in a minute later to seal the win.
Former Reds hitman Peter Crouch was clearly impressed, taking to Twitter to say of Salah’s goal: “Right foot, at pace and curling away from goal. Ridiculous.”
And he added on BT Sport, via Daily Mail: “There were a couple of facials from Salah when he missed chances but then he just switches back on and goes for the next chance and knows he’ll get it. And with the goal… what a tremendous finish that was.”
TBR’s View – Salah showing signs of getting back to his very best
There are always discussions about which of Liverpool’s front three is the best player and Sadio Mane has had a better season than Salah so far.
But as opposition defences make allowances to stop Mane, that will allow Salah more and more chances and the signs from the past two matches are that he is getting back to his very best.
It’s a crucial period for Liverpool now, with the games stacking up as they seek to keep their momentum going. Salah may well have timed his return to form perfectly.
