Peter Crouch hails ‘fantastic’ Tottenham star for Europa League display
Peter Crouch was left raving about Tottenham match-winner Harry Kane for his performance against Dinamo Zagreb.
Spurs beat Croatian champions Zagreb 2-0 on Thursday night in the Europa League.
The North London outfit secured a two-goal aggregate lead in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
It means they’ll travel to Croatia next week as favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, but they still have some work to do.
Kane, who is so often the difference for Spurs, scored a goal in each half to secure victory.
His opener was a simple finish after the ball landed at his feet after Erik Lamela’s effort hit the post, while the second was an excellent low finish after creating room for himself in a crowded penalty box.
The England captain is now up to 26 goals across all competitions so far, with eight coming in the Europa League campaign.
Crouch was waxing lyrical about the 27-year-old in his post-match analysis:
“His performance today was fantastic,” Crouch told BT Sport ESPN (10:13pm, 11 March).
“It’s just his all-round involvement. He creates so much as well, he’s almost Tottenham’s best midfielder and centre-forward. It’s amazing. He also has the awareness to know when he needs to be in the six yard box to finish things off.”
With Kane in this kind of form, there has to be a strong chance that Spurs can go on to win the Europa League.
Crouch pointed out though in his analysis that the Spurs frontman is more than just a goalscorer, something which rings true considering he’s got 16 assists under his belt this season.
He showed against Zagreb that his game has adapted, dropping into deeper positions to dictate play, and having the football brain to link up possession in the final third.
