Rangers winger Glenn Middleton could be on his way to Doncaster Rovers, according to reports. The Scottish Sun states the winger will head to the Keepmoat Stadium on a season-long loan to gain some valuable first-team experience.

There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard will have seen how loan players developed at Doncaster last season before making this decision.

Wilks could now have a first-team role to play at Elland Road whilst Kane will surely be playing Championship level next season.

Doncaster boss Grant McCann was happily blowing his club’s own trumpet about their loan success in conversation with the club’s official website recently.

“These two boys (Wilks and Kane) came in and no one knew them, everyone was wondering what to expect.

“They went from strength to strength and now everyone is after them, it gives you a sense of pride in the job.”

Rangers boss Gerrard will no doubt hope Middleton can grow in a similar fashion. First-team chances on the wing are likely to be slim at Ibrox next season, so Middleton needs a loan spell.

He thrived for the Rangers under-23s toward the end of the season and it’s clear that level is below him.

Hopefully, he can thrive in League One before returning to Glasgow as a potential Rangers first-team star.
