A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have urged the Spurs board to make a move for Brentford forward Ollie Watkins this summer.

The 24-year-old has been sensational for his side this season, weighing in with 25 goals and three assists during the regular Championship season, plus a crucial playoff goal.

In wake of Neal Maupay’s move to Brighton last year, Bees boss Thomas Frank shifted Watkins from out wide to up front, which has proven a masterstroke.

“He’s like a Ronaldo-type, that he can play as a nine or he can play to the side, or he can play as a 10,” Frank told the Wandsworth Times last August.

“But because he’s so versatile he has abilities you can benefit off in all positions.”

The 6ft forward was key in Brentford’s playoff semi-final victory over Swansea City, helping his side overturn a one-goal deficit to progress to the final 3-2 on aggregate.

Watkins levelled the tie in the 11th minute on Wednesday night as he fired low past Erwin Mulder following a swift counterattack started by goalkeeper David Raya.

Emiliano Marcondes and Bryan Mbeumo added to the hosts’ tally on the night, though Pontus Jansson’s error allowed Rhian Brewster to score on 78 minutes for a nervy finish.

Brentford are now off to Wembley and stand just one game away from the Premier League, with either Fulham or Cardiff their opponents in the final.

And some Spurs fans on social media following proceedings at Griffin Park were impressed with what they saw from Watkins:
