It appears that Aston Villa will not be making a move for Pepe Reina on a permanent deal, according to comments from the player’s agent.
The Spaniard is currently on loan at Villa Park from AC Milan but has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in recent days.
His agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has since spoken to Foot Mercato to explain that, currently, there are no talks ongoing with PSG regarding a move for his client.
But it is his comments regarding any potential offer from England that is most interesting to Aston Villa fans.
“He has one year left with Milan. We wanted an agreement to make him a free transfer (this summer). No contract has been offered to him in England and Milan wants him to come back. Reina has a contract with Milan. If Milan wants him to come back, he has to come back.”
Quilon makes it clear that Aston Villa have not currently made a move to secure his services permanently.
Reina was brought in as emergency cover at Aston Villa after Tom Heaton and Jed Steer both suffered season-ending injuries earlier in the campaign.
With Lovre Kalinic and Orjan Nyland seemingly failing to have the trust of Dean Smith to be number one at Villa Park, the former Liverpool star was brought in.
But, with Heaton still considered the number one and Reina 37-years-old, Aston Villa appear to be ready to move on from the player once his loan deal at the club has officially come to an end.
