Pepe Reina and Mbwana Samatta react as Aston Villa progress to Carabao Cup final

Aston Villa upset the odds by beating Leicester City on the night and on aggregate to progress into the final of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 aggregate victory – and new signings Pepe Reina and Mbwana Samatta have reacted on Instagram.

Villa came into the second leg at Villa Park after securing an excellent 1-1 draw at Leicester earlier this month, with Frederic Guilbert’s striker being cancelled out by Kelechi Iheanacho. This time around, another full-back opened the scoring.

This time is was Matty Targett who blasted the ball past Kasper Schmeichel to give Villa the lead, after good work from captain Jack Grealish. Leicester, though, equalised in the second half through that man against Iheanacho.

However, in injury time, a stunning cross from Ahmed El Mohamady was turned into the back of the net by summer signing Trezeguet – giving Villa the lead when a penalty shootout looked on the horizon at Villa Park.

The Egyptian’s goal was met with crazy scenes in the stands, that eventually spilled out onto the pitch. Villa will now face either Manchester United or Manchester City, with the latter boasting a 3-1 advantage from the first leg.

Samatta made his debut for Villa, lasting 67 minutes and had a glorious chance to open his account but he failed to do so. He posted on Instagram, as did Pepe Reina who was left out of the side for the impressive Orjan Nyland.
