Pep Guardiola reportedly tried to sign Wolves hero Adama Traore twice

Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a fantastic result in the Premier League yesterday, turning over reigning champions Manchester City at The Etihad.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side played out a perfect gameplan against Pep Guardiola’s stars, hitting them hard on the counter-attack.

The hero of the day was Adama Traore. The jet-heeled winger was moved into a central striking role and it paid off dividends as he punished City with two cool finishes on the breakaway for a 2-0 win.

The efforts of the Wolves star would have hurt even more for Guardiola because he knows just how talented he is.

Traore came through the youth academy at Barcelona. Whilst Guardiola had already departed the Nou Camp when Traore made his first-team debut, he would have still been known to the City boss during his time at the Catalan sides famed La Masia Academy.

In fact, according to some reports, Guardiola has even tried to sign the Spanish under-21 international on two occasions.

When Traore headed to Aston Villa in 2015, Guardiola wanted him at Bayern Munich. At least that’s what Traore told RAC1 radio show Tu Diras that summer, as reported by SPORT.

“There were details that made me decide to go to Aston Villa. Bayern are a great club but it’s complicated to play. I am grateful to Guardiola for showing his interest and I hope in the future I can learn from him.”

In 2016, Mundo Deportivo reported that Guardiola remains a fan and that Manchester City were still tracking the then Middlesbrough star.

But he is with Wolves now and the club will no doubt be pleased he again showed Guardiola what he is made of in yesterday’s impressive win. Hopefully, it won’t see him trying to lure Traore to The Etihad anytime soon.
