Pep Guardiola has interesting message over whether Erling Haaland will be fit to face Liverpool

Pep Guardiola has suggested that Erling Haaland could miss Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

Haaland was left on the bench as an unused substitute for the 0-0 draw against FC Copenhagen last night.

It was the first time since he joined City that he had not been a starter and when City went down to ten men, his hopes of coming on faded.

Guardiola was asked about Haaland by TV2 after the game and lifted the lid on the striker’s fitness situation ahead of the trip to Anfield.

Guardiola on Haaland

Guardiola said of Haaland: “He’s so tired.

“He has some muscle disorders and we didn’t want to take any chances. We have to see tomorrow, I hope he will be ready (to play against Liverpool).”

Haaland had injury problems at Borussia Dortmund but has been more durable for City so far, starting almost every game and scoring relentlessly.

Perhaps Guardiola is just keeping Liverpool guessing about the identity of the frontline they are set to face at the weekend.

We may know more as the week goes on with press conferences and more time for City to assess the fitness of their talismanic striker.

It would be a boost for Liverpool if Haaland is not fit to play but of course City have a host of quality players capable of causing the Reds problems.
