Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists that Tottenham should be viewed as contenders for the Premier League title this season.
Despite failing to win a piece of silverware since the League Cup in 2008, there is a growing optimism around Spurs at present as their manager Jose Mourinho celebrates a year in charge of the club.
Spurs currently sit second in the league standings after just eight games of the campaign and they host last season’s runners-up Man City this weekend.
The North London club are looking explosive going forward with attacking firepower such as Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, while defensively they are beginning to improve in that aspect as well.
Guardiola will surely be hoping his Man City team are in the mix for the title as they look to beat reigning champions Liverpool, but he feels upcoming opponents Spurs deserve to be in the conversation as well.
“The numbers speak for themselves. They dropped points vs Newcastle and West Ham in the last minutes, imagine the table without. The manager is quality, of course they are contenders. They are an exceptional team the last four or five years since Mauricio [Pocehttino] took over,” Guardiola said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

TBR’s View:
It certainly looks like the league table could have an unfamiliar feel to it this season, as Leicester City and Spurs are currently the top two with plenty of other teams starting surprisingly well too.
There may be some that fall away as the season progresses, but Mourinho is someone that has certainly improved things at Spurs since he took charge a year ago and his team will be the real deal if they can find consistency.
This weekend’s league showdown between Spurs and Man City could tell a lot about the two teams.
