'People need to understand': Arsenal 21-year-old sends a strong message to rival fans

Nuno Tavares sat down for an interview with Sky Sports yesterday and the 21-year-old has sent a message to rival fans and the media who are surprised by Arsenal‘s recent form.

Mikel Arteta’s men looked down and out after just three games in the Premier League this season. They were at the bottom of the table at that point and a top-half finish, let alone a finish in the top-four, looked extremely unlikely.

Arsenal, however, have turned things around. They are now just three points behind defending champions Manchester City and a win later this evening will push them ahead of Liverpool and into the top four.

The upturn in form has surprised quite a few people recently. Nobody really expected Arsenal to recover as well as they have done from the position they were in. Tavares, however, says ‘it’s normal’ that his side are winning games.

Could Centre-Forwards Become Extinct?

Nuno Tavares: It is normal for Arsenal to win games

The young Portuguese defender told Sky Sports ahead of the game at Anfield: “We are confident about going to Anfield and winning the game with a clean sheet or not.

“We want to win the game, and more importantly than a clean sheet, get the three points.

“Arsenal is a big club with big players. It is normal for us to win games. For us, we want to be in the top one.

“I don’t know why people are so surprised. People need to understand we are Arsenal and we need to win games to reach our objectives.”

Should Tavares start against Liverpool?

Arsenal made it a priority to sign a new left-back in the summer. They needed a deputy for Kieran Tierney and Tavares became the chosen one.

The Scotsman’s recent injury problems opened the door for Tavares to come in and show the world what he’s got. The 21-year-old, surprisingly, has been brilliant, so much so, that some Arsenal fans want him to start this evening.

Arteta has a tough decision to make at Anfield. Tierney is Arsenal’s first-choice left-back and when he’s fit, he’s usually an undisputed starter.

Tavares has done nothing wrong to lose his place in the side. He arguably deserves to start again, but the magnitude of the game this evening could force Arteta to go with his more experienced left-back instead.
