‘People laughed’: Leeds fans lament lack of Kalvin Phillips in loss to Manchester United

Leeds United endured the nightmare start to their second Premier League season in succession, as Manchester United dominated at Old Trafford.

Despite going level through Luke Ayling, Leeds had no answer as Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes tore the Whites defence to shreds.

Pogba in particular was brilliant. The Frenchman had a hand in four of the five United goals and looked every bit the world-class midfielder people expect him to be consistently.

For Leeds, it was a case of back to the drawing board for Marcelo Bielsa. It is, of course, just the opening game of the season. But the lack of quality was obvious, especially in the middle of the park without Kalvin Phillips.

And it was that loss of Phillips which had Leeds fans talking on Twitter during and after the game.

Phillips will be hoping to make his come back as soon as possible and will have been concerned with what he saw today. As, it seems, were a number of Leeds United fans.
