Chris Sutton has now been discussing the way in which some fans treated one of Arsenal’s new signings in his first few months at the club.
Mikel Arteta is known to be a manager who sticks to his guns, and rightly so, his convictions have brought Arsenal this far.

So when Arteta decided to spend a lot of money on the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya last summer, most fans trusted the process, they believed in Arteta to make the right call.
And whilst there was little doubt about Rice’s impact in North London, the same can’t be said about Havertz or Raya.
Both signings caused a ton of noise, pundits and fans were regularly lamenting deals to bring the duo to the club.
Fast forward to now and both have been crucial to Arsenal’s run of five consecutive league wins.
And with that in mind, Chris Sutton was discussing Kai Havertz in particular on the BBC’s ‘The Monday Night Club’.
Sutton explained that fans judged the new signing far too quickly at Arsenal, saying Arteta’s resilience eventually paid off.
Chris Sutton thinks fans got it wrong with new Arsenal signing Kai Havertz
Speaking on the podcast, Sutton said that the timing of Havertz’s forward runs have particularly impressed him.
He said: “Havertz has taken a fair bit of flak. His role was really important.

“I know people talk about [Leandro] Trossard playing in the false nine position but they dovetailed a lot throughout the game and Havertz’s forward runs, the timing of them.
“Written off may be a bit strong, but people judged him a bit early at Arsenal and Arteta has had that faith in him.”
Of course, Havertz is now a crucial part of Arsenal’s attacking play, he’s been the heartbeat of these two huge away wins.
And even with Arteta expected to make changes away at FC Porto on Wednesday, Havertz should keep his place.
The German is showing both maturity and responsibility in his performances, a player Arteta can rely on.
And whilst Sutton thinks fans got it wrong, Arteta never flinched, we knew his new Arsenal signing would come good.
That being said, it seems Arsenal would be willing to sell one ‘outstanding’ midfielder this summer.
