People at West Ham are starting to think £27m player might finally come good

West Ham United had a rather poor season last time around.

Indeed, it was very much a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’ as West Ham went backwards last season after David Moyes left the club.

A number of West Ham players underperformed last season, Guido Rodriguez was heavily criticised at times, while Niclas Fullkrug didn’t live up to his £27m price tag.

Fullkrug wasn’t good enough last season, but there’s a feeling that the German may improve this season.

According to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, there are a few people within West Ham who now think Fullkrug could be setting himself up for a decent season.

Niclas Fullkrug tipped to come good

According to Jones, Fullkrug has managed to work his way back into Graham Potter’s good books recently.

The journalist says that some people around West Ham are beginning to believe the striker could turn things around this season.

“Yeah, apparently Fullkrug is in Potter’s good books at the moment, and there are a few people around West Ham who are thinking, actually, actually this might work, but yeah, Potter is under pressure as this season gets underway, he has to start well,” Jones said.

Potter is taking a liking to Fullkrug in pre-season, and while that does bode well for the upcoming campaign, we mustn’t ignore what happened last season.

Indeed, West Ham may not be wise to put all of their eggs into the Fullkrug basket as, last season, the striker really struggled to get anything going, particularly under Graham Potter.

Of course, this may have just been a teething period for a player who was scoring regularly at international and Champions League level two years ago, but, the stats are worrying it must be said.

West Ham seem to have faith in Fullkrug’s abilities heading into next season, but it remains to be seen if that faith is indeed misplaced.
