‘People around the club’: Journalist shares what Arsenal insiders have just told him about Saka’s injury today

Journalist Charles Watts has offered an update on the Bukayo Saka injury which forced him off in Arsenal’s win over Manchester United.

Saka scored Arsenal’s second goal from the penalty spot on an afternoon where Arsenal knocked United out of the chase for the Premier League top four once and for all.

It was the second time in a matter of days where Saka had shown his mental strength, scoring a crucial spot-kick on the back of his Euro 2020 penalty shootout heartache with England.

On YouTube, Watts said that Arsenal insiders had told him that Saka should be fit to face West Ham in Sunday’s London derby.

“I’ve been getting lots of questions about this, Bukayo Saka’s fitness,” he said. “I don’t think it’s anything massively to worry about.

“He went off at the weekend and Mikel was apparently saying after the game at the weekend he didn’t think it was anything too serious.

“I’ve put the feelers out today and people around the club are expecting him to be okay this weekend. We will have to wait to see how training progresses but it doesn’t look anything serious.

“Someone messaged me on Twitter this morning saying: ‘Saka out for the season?’. It’s nothing like that. I don’t think you need to be too concerned about Saka’s fitness and he should be fine to face West Ham this weekend.”

The injury update is music to the ears of Arsenal fans at a time when every game counts.

Saka was posing on the pitch post-match with Gunners legends including Dennis Bergkamp, so he was clearly not getting urgent treatment for a major injury.

As Watts said, Arsenal need to watch how his fitness holds up in training this week but it does not appear that the Gunners are dealing with a major problem here.

The last two wins have been sensational for Arsenal and another grudge match is coming up, although West Ham will understandably have their focus on their Europa League semi-final clash either side of the match.
