Pedro Porro has all the Spanish media saying the same thing about the Tottenham star

Tottenham star Pedro Porro impressed while on international duty with Spain, playing a crucial role in their victory over Georgia.

The defender hasn’t always been handed a chance for the national team, despite his impressive form since joining Spurs.

While viewed as a wing-back initially, his ability to fit in as a right-back has seen his strengths maximised at Tottenham under Thomas Frank.

That has finally translated to some opportunities for Spain, where he made just his 13th appearance for the team in a win over Georgia.

It ended 2-0 to the current European champions, who are closing in on World Cup qualification, and even though Pedro Porro didn’t score or assist, he has received plenty of praise.

Pedro Porro named the best player for Spain against Georgia

With Porro given the nod to start for Spain against Georgia, it was an opportunity to see how he could deal with one of the world’s best forwards.

On his side was Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the PSG star who has shown just how good he can be over the past year.

Not only did Porro lock him down, but he also offered plenty going forward, leading to him being named the best player for the team.

El Desmarque gave him a nine out of ten for his performance and said: “A real dagger from the wing. He had several chances to score with several dangerous crosses, and on the odd one, Marmardashvili struggled. He even hit the woodwork with a great shot that could have made it 2-0 in the second half. He was by far the best player of the match.”

The praise continues from Sport, who gave him an eight out of ten and said: “One of the best players on the Spanish national team. He drove up the wing a lot and delivered some good crosses. He even dared to shoot, testing Mamardashvili. In the second half, he came close to scoring, but hit the post.”

Mundo Deportivo even said: “He had clear orders to drive every ball into the box, and he carried them out from start to finish. He earned a well-deserved standing ovation from the entire Martinez Valero stadium and finished as the match’s MVP.”

It’s clear that Porro has gained plenty of praise for his performance, and the numbers back that up.

Pedro Porro’s statistics in Spain vs Georgia

Pedro Porro has impressed for Spain in previous games too, but perhaps the win over Georgia was his best to date.

With each passing game, the defender seems to grow in confidence, and the statistics back that up.

Porro was all-action, taking 110 touches with an 88% passing success rate, as per SofaScore, who gave him a 9.1 rating out of ten.

The crosses rained in, with 14 in total, as well as six key passes and four big chances created, so he may feel aggrieved that he didn’t come away with a goal or an assist.

Porro’s defensive work was good too, making two tackles and three interceptions, while winning four ground duels.

There was a yellow card to blight his record, but he played well even while having that caution.
