Pedro Neto makes claim about Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip

Pedro Neto has admitted to Wolves’ official website that he would rather come up against a Liverpool side that includes Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip ahead of Monday’s clash between the two sides.

It is set to be a fascinating game at Molineux. Neither side are in the best form right now. The champions have now lost five of their last six in the top flight, and they find themselves eight points off the top four.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men meanwhile, have taken one point from their last three. But while an underwhelming finish is on the cards, Neto has been a shining light.

The 20-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League. And Liverpool fans would be forgiven for being concerned about what he may do against a Reds backline that seems to be forced into changes every time they take to the field.

But interestingly, Neto has suggested that he would rather be coming up against those Jurgen Klopp cannot call upon for this game.

“I have to be honest, I would rather play against van Dijk or Matip because I like to test myself against the best so I can improve my game,” he told the club’s official website. “The best thing we can do in football to learn, is to play with the best.

“I came to this league to play with the best and to play against the best, and to show that I can do my job and play my game whoever is on the pitch.”

TBR View: Phillips and Kabak demonstrated their potential in midweek

In fairness, if Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak can replicate their midweek displays, Wolves may be in for a tough evening anyway.

The pair were excellent as Liverpool beat RB Leipzig in the second-leg of their Champions League tie. So they will take a lot of confidence into Monday’s game.
