Pedro Chirivella has posted a heartfelt message to Liverpool supporters after it was confirmed he had joined French side Nantes on a free transfer – following the expiration of his contract at the end of this month.

Chirivella, 23, joined Liverpool way back in the summer of 2013 from Valencia’s youth team but has failed to make a significant impact at Anfield. Despite that, he has built up a strong rapport with supporters.

The Spain youth international has called time on his stay at Liverpool after just 11 senior appearances, six of which came this season. Chirivella played in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Everton, and the penalty-shootout win over Arsenal.

Ligue 1 outfit Nantes announced the signing of Chirivella on a free transfer, which sees the holding midfielder sign a three-year deal with the top-tier side. It is believed Steven Gerrard wanted the Spaniard at Rangers.

Liverpool are set to lose Adam Lallana this summer, as well as Chirivella – with both players seeing their contracts expire at the end of June. Chirivella will be prevented from making his Nantes debut until September, with the French government ruling a suspension until then.

Following his seven-year stay, Chirivella has posted an emotional message to supporters on Tuesday afternoon – thanking supporters, describing Anfield as the best Stadium in the world and mentioning the coaching staff.
