Pedro Chirivella must regret turning down Liverpool exit this summer

At the end of July, Liverpool looked set to lose Spanish talent Pedro Chirivella. The 21-year-old looked set to leave for Norway. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Norwegian giants Rosenborg made a move worth around £3.5 million. The report said he was off for talks with the club and would undergo a medical.

However, he did not accept the deal. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Chirivella decided he would wait and see if an offer from England or Spain arrived for his services, as he did not want to play in Norway.

That now looks a mistake.

The former Spain under-17 international, who spent last season on loan at Dutch side Willem II, is nowhere near the first-team at Anfield.  Whilst he has played every minute of Liverpool’s under-23 fixtures so far this season he has not been in Jurgen Klopp’s plans and, considering a bid was accepted for him this summer, that looks like being the case for a while. With his contract not expiring until 2020, he faces a while stuck in the under-23s before he is free to choose a new destination.

Meanwhile, Rosenborg could have afforded him a far better opportunity. They are currently top of the Norwegian top-flight, going for their 26th title. They are also in the Europa League group stages this season, which would have been a great chance for exposure for the Spaniard.

For whatever reason, Chirivella decided that a move to Norway was simply not for him. But it is hard to see how he is currently better off.
