Pedro Chirivella has been discussing his exit from Liverpool, admitting he was now ready for more regular first-team football that was not forthcoming at Anfield.

The Spaniard has agreed to join French side Nantes on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal on Merseyside.

Chirivella has signed a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 side and has left some at Liverpool disappointed considering his continued progress at the club in recent times.

Jurgen Klopp praised him earlier this season, as reported by Liverpoolfc.com, and according to Goal the Reds had offered the midfield maestro a new five-year deal to keep him at the club.

“Pedro played and in the first half against Aston Villa was probably the best player on the pitch, we watched it on television in Qatar and we were completely over the moon about what we saw there.”

However, as Chirivella has explained to the French side’s official website he has decided it was best for his career that he made the move away from Melwood to continue his development with more guaranteed regular first-team football.

“Coming to Nantes is a very good opportunity for me. It was not easy to have playing time in Liverpool and today I need to play…

“I was able to chat with (Nantes manager) Mr. (Christian) Gourcuff. He is a flagship coach of French football and I know he appreciates when his team holds the ball. In Liverpool, one of the assistant coaches knows him well and he said it was a great opportunity for me to work under such a coach.”

Despite his more impressive displays for Liverpool this season they were still sparse and hard to come by. With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Guni Wijnaldum, James Milner, Fabinho, and Naby Keita to contend with it was always going to be tough for the 23-year-old to force his way into being a regular for Liverpool’s first-team as they challenge regularly for silverware.

No doubt everyone at Liverpool will be wishing the Spaniard all the best at his new club.
