Pedro Chirivella has told Spanish newspaper Marca that he is “happy” at Liverpool despite being in the final months of his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Chirivella, 22, has endured a difficult couple of years on loan in Spain and in The Netherlands and has now returned to Liverpool where he has managed just two appearances this season – the second coming against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
The Spanish midfielder made five appearances for Liverpool in 2015-16, and has since gone on loan to Willem II where he impressed, Go Ahead Eagles where he also did well – but most recently a tricky spell in his home country.
Indeed, Chirivella moved to second-tier side Extremadura for the second half of the 2018-19 season. But due to registration rules, the midfielder could not make a single appearance. However, he has stated he is now happy to be at Liverpool.
“It’s a privilege to be here. I’m very happy with the opportunity given to me yesterday and hopefully I’ll have more in the next rounds of the [Carabao] Cup to keep playing minutes with the first team,” Chirivella said.

TBR’s view – What can Chirivella do between now and next summer?
The Spanish midfielder will not see his contract renewed, that is almost certain. However, Chirivella can continue to shine in Premier League 2 – he has made seve appearances this season in the competition – and get the odd few minutes in the senior side.
Chirivella must realise that these are the last days of his Liverpool spell, and use his remaining time at Anfield as a shop window to show other clubs what he is all about.
