Paulo Fonseca’s wife posts goodbye message on Instagram, amid reportedly imminent Tottenham move

Paulo Fonseca is reportedly close to being announced as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager. The Portuguese gaffer has been replaced by Jose Mourinho at the Serie A side and now, Spurs are set to complete a swap. Fonseca’s wife has strengthened those claims, with a post on Instagram.

Fonseca, 48, brings with him plenty of pedigree. He won 103 of his 139 games in charge at Shakhtar Donetsk, and three league titles in three seasons. He started well at Roma, finishing in a promising fifth. But after numerous injuries, he failed to capitalise in his second season.

Roma finished seventh and while his side reached the Europa League semi-final, Fonseca resigned. Now, Spurs are on the verge of appointing Fonseca – according to the Telegraph in what is expected to be a three-year deal. His wife Katerina posted on Instagram, wishing goodbye to Rome.

She said: “Another crucial summer. And already familiar feeling when my heart shrinks because I hate to say goodbye, but I have butterflies in my stomach because the new page begins.”

What does Fonseca need at Tottenham back – after Instagram hint from wife?

He needs money. He needs to be backed in the transfer window. Then, he needs time to make that money and new signings gel. What he does have, is the added tool of Fabio Paratici. Having the genius mind of Paratici – the man behind Juventus’ dominance over the last decade – is crucial.

Fonseca’s attacking style will attract fans. The freedom he gives to his side in the final third might even convince the likes of Gareth Bale and Harry Kane to stay. But will he take Spurs back into the top four? Time will tell.
