Paul Scholes says £63m Premier League player is ‘absolutely not going to’ join Manchester United

Manchester United are not the club they once used to be.

Yes, the Red Devils are still massive in terms of stature and history, but on the pitch, they are nowhere near the level that Sir Alex Ferguson set at the club over a decade ago.

Ruben Amorim has been tasked with the job of making United great again, and the Portuguese tactician is working really hard to achieve that.

In order to do that, however, Amorim will need world-class signings in the coming windows, but Paul Scholes feels his old club don’t stand a chance in the race to sign one player.

Paul Scholes says there’s no chance Manchester United will sign Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak is the best striker in the Premier League right now.

The Swede, who moved to St James’ Park for £63 million (Sky Sports), has been sensational for Newcastle United, having scored 19 goals and provided five assists in all competitions so far this term.

If the Magpies fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, a number of clubs will likely try their luck to sign the star striker.

Jamie Carragher feels Isak will want to join Liverpool over Arsenal if the two sides make moves to sign him at the end of this season.

But, would Manchester United – the biggest club in the country – be able to lure the Sweden international to Old Trafford?

Scholes thinks it’s impossible.

He said on The Overlap: “He is a player that Manchester United should’ve been (and) would’ve been looking at. There’s no shadow of a doubt.

“But, in the position we’re in now, it’s absolutely not going to happen.”

Manchester United need to fix one problem before signing a new striker

Manchester United have had an awful season so far.

The Red Devils are currently 13th in the Premier League table, and there’s a very real possibility that they could finish in the bottom half.

Among the reasons behind their struggles is the lack of output from their strikers.

A combined five goals in nearly 2000 minutes of football from the two strikers is just not good enough. They need to bring in someone who will do more.

But, before that happens, one of Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee will have to be moved on in the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen who, if any, Amorim will push out of United this summer.
