Aston Villa haven’t had the best of starts to this Premier League season, it must be said.
Indeed, Aston Villa are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season, and Unai Emery is being questioned somewhat after a poor start this term.
Villa’s biggest problem is clear for all to see this season, they simply aren’t scoring goals.
Villa have only scored one goal in five games this season, and speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football, Paul Scholes has been discussing Villa’s issues, and he’s picked out Ollie Watkins as something of a problem player.

Paul Scholes says Ollie Watkins isn’t right
Scholes shared his verdict on Villa’s start to the season and Watkins’ struggles.
The pundit says that something simply isn’t right with Watkins.
Scholes says he never thought the £28m man was a great finisher, but, now, he seems to be way off it.
Watkins has been criticised by others too.
“There’s someone not quite right with him. Look, I don’t think he’s ever been a brilliant finisher anyway,” Scholes said.
“I think he works brilliant for his teammates, he gets in good positions but the amount of time I see him choose the wrong finish, where you think… I think that’s between him and the top class centre-forwards.
“But I switched it on, when I saw that chance, he has got to score. It reminded me, remember when Harry Redknapp went mad at Darren Bent years ago, said my wife would have scored.”
Ollie Watkins’ stats this season
Scholes says something isn’t right with Watkins, and he’s not wrong.
Indeed, the numbers show that the striker hasn’t been at the races so far this season.
| Ollie Watkins’ stats this season | |
| Games | 6 |
| Goals | 0 |
| Expected goals | 1.32 |
| Shots per game | 1.6 |
Watkins isn’t getting as many shots off this season as he did last year, and, clearly, he’s yet to score a goal.
Of course, it’s early days, and after just five games, it’s not yet time to overreact.
However, with Villa struggling at the start of this season, Watkins does need to step things up and help his team get out of their current rut.
