The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United has a new storyline now.
Both clubs have Dutch managers at the helm, and we’re sure they would love nothing more than to get the better of each other.
The new Premier League season begins on Friday as Manchester United host Fulham. Liverpool begin their campaign with an away game against newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see how they’ll get on, but Paul Scholes, while speaking on The Overlap, seems convinced about which club will have the better 2024/25 season.
Paul Scholes makes Liverpool and Manchester United prediction
Scholes enjoyed a number of successful years at Manchester United in a period where they were almost always above Liverpool.
However, the tables have turned since he left the club.
Liverpool have been the better side in recent seasons, finishing above their fierce rivals in four of the last six Premier League campaigns.
Now, Liverpool are starting a new era under Arne Slot, and everyone is looking forward to seeing how they will fare in 2024/25.
Manchester United should back themselves to finish above Liverpool this season, but Scholes feels his old club don’t stand a chance.
He has claimed that Erik ten Hag’s side still have ‘too many issues’ in their squad, which is why they will finish below Liverpool this season.
Scholes said: “I think we will struggle to do as well as Liverpool, as much as I would like it to be the other way around.
“Liverpool have a really good squad of players, they have settled, with one or two additions I think they could be a real threat.
“United have too many issues at this point to get anywhere near them.”

Manchester United have one key advantage over Liverpool
Liverpool definitely have the more settled squad considering that many of their players have been together for a long time.
However, there is a big disadvantage.
Liverpool are yet to sign a single player this summer. They haven’t improved since last season, and with a change in system incoming under Slot, things will not be easy.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have done some excellent business already in this window, and that has lifted the morale in and around the club.
That could prove to be a big advantage for the Red Devils over their fierce rivals in the upcoming season.
