Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been slated by Paul Scholes in wake of the Reds ace’s “lack of respect” towards Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old was named on the bench for the Premier League trip to Manchester United, but was brought on with 16 minutes left to play.

Liverpool delivered a superb performance to run out 4-2 winners at Old Trafford, with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scoring for the visitors.

At full time, Mane snubbed a handshake from his manager and was even caught on the television cameras walking towards the tunnel shaking his head.

The incident prompted discussion amongst fans and pundits, with Scholes hitting out at the Senegal international after the match.

“A complete lack of respect for his manager. He has been left out of the team for a game, it happens to the best players in the world, deal with it,” the Optus Sport pundit said.

“He needs to grow up. He has acted like a little kid, really.

“If the team had got beat, possibly, but to do that in front of the cameras, the world, it embarrasses the manager, who had to walk away from him.

“It is a total lack of respect. I see both sides but he is totally out of order.”

Klopp has played down the incident, saying he’ll clear the air with his player.

“Football is an emotional game and people expect that we control our emotions always but it doesn’t work out that way,” he said. “We will talk about it and everything will be fine.”

Liverpool are next in action on Sunday when they head to relegated West Bromwich Albion.
