Paul Scholes criticises Liverpool duo after draw against Manchester United

Paul Scholes has told Premier League Productions on Sunday evening that Roberto Firmino has gone “right off the boil” and also criticised Mo Salah – as Liverpool failed to beat Manchester United at Anfield.

David De Gea made numerous saves as Liverpool failed to score for a third consecutive Premier League match – with both Salah and Firmino struggling to recapture their best form. Alisson made a wonderful save to deny Paul Pogba.

The draw has seen Liverpool slip to fourth position in the Premier League, with both Manchester clubs and Leicester City ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side. Everton could even go above Liverpool, as the Toffees boast a game in hand.

Manchester United legend Scholes gave his verdict on the game and had criticism for both Firmino and Salah – two thirds of Liverpool’s front three – claiming that both are not proving to be as clinical as they normally are.

“The last three or four games, they have really struggled in front of goal,” Scholes said. “Salah is snatching at things, Firmino has gone right off the boil and isn’t creating things. He doesn’t look like he is going to score.”

TBR’s view – What needs to change?

It comes just a matter of games after Liverpool dismantled Crystal Palace by seven goals to nil. The Reds have lost their confidence and perhaps the injuries are finally beginning to take their toll.

Michael Owen raised a good point during the programme that Liverpool are not as much missing chances, but they are failing to create them. Jordan Henderson thinks the Reds are not getting the luck they once did.

A bit more creativity, but getting the likes of Diogo Jota back into the side will help. It is not a crisis, but it is concerning.
