Leeds United legend and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has highlighted the performances of young stopper, Illan Meslier, as being particularly impressive this season.
Meslier has been handed the number one jersey by Marcelo Bielsa and is seemingly snatching it with both hands, with a highlight display at Sheffield United on the standout performances across all the Premier League this term.

And Robinson, who was speaking to the club’s official website, says he believes Meslier will only go on to get better and better.
“He has been given the gloves and the number 1 jersey which was a huge vote of confidence for him and since that point he has got better and he will continue to get better.
“He’s not done a lot wrong since he came in at the end of the Championship campaign last season and he seems to have grown in stature since his debut against Arsenal. What impresses me is his shot to save ratio, I think it is around 78 per cent, which is going to be really important for Leeds going forward.”
Meslier has given Leeds assurance at the back after a rocky few months under former number one, Kiko Casilla. The Spaniard is now out of the picture at Elland Road, with Meslier firmly established as number one.
Meslier proving that young goalkeepers can be trusted – TBR View
A lot of talk in the game is about when a player is ready and the experience they need. That is particularly rife when it comes to goalkeepers, who we historically see as coming into their peak later in their careers.

But Meslier is bucking the trend it seems. He has been so, so good for Leeds and looks like being their number one for the next decade at the very least.
At the end of the day, if Marcelo Bielsa trusts you, then you aren’t doing much wrong. Leeds fans will be hoping it continues for years to come.
