Paul Robinson reacts to crucial Leeds victory over Millwall

Paul Robinson believes that Leeds United’s win over Millwall on Tuesday night was absolutely vital and suggested it could be a turning point in the season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team found themselves suffering a two-goal deficit at half-time and were on course for a third consecutive league defeat.

But the Whites responded in emphatic fashion in the second-half to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford (two) and Pablo Hernandez.

The result saw Leeds climb back to the top of the Championship table and they have 55 points from 29 league matches.

Meanwhile, second-placed West Brom are two points behind them and third-placed Nottingham Forest a further two points back from them.

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson insists that his former side may have had a season-defining moment against Millwall in their bid for automatic promotion.

“That is a season turning point [against Millwall]. Leeds were not on a good run of form. They have not been playing particularly well, results have not been great but you are going to go through times like that in a season,” Robinson told Sky Sports.

“The way that they started the game you questioned why they were sloppy in possession and they conceded early goals but it was a huge turn around especially with West Brom’s dip of form. That was a huge result for Leeds last night and it cannot be underestimated.”

TBR’s View:

Leeds should only see their dramatic win over Millwall as a big success if they back it up on Saturday when they host Wigan in their next league match.

They only have a four-point cushion keeping them inside the automatic promotion positions and one result doesn’t hide from the fact they have struggled in some recent games.

A second-half turnaround should help restore some confidence in the group, while there are also the new signings of Jean-Kevin Augustin and Ian Poveda to throw into the mix.
