Amid heavy interest from Premier League rivals, Newcastle United are confident they can convince one of their star forwards to stay.

Having eased their PSR concerns at the end of June, Eddie Howe will be hoping that the rest of the club’s summer is just designed to improve their playing staff.

Paul Mitchell’s appointment as the club’s new sporting director will be significant in that regard, renowned for scouting and recruitment expertise.

Mitchell is thought to have a £100m transfer budget at Newcastle this summer, ready to provide Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes with further reasons to stay.

Without European football, both are proving their loyalty to Howe’s team not pushing for a move this summer, players who have been subjective of significant interest.

That being said, during all of the PSR deadline chaos, Anthony Gordon’s future was also discussed with Liverpool.

Fortunately for Newcastle, deals elsewhere meant they were able to swiftly end those talks, but they may still play a significant role in Gordon’s future plans.

Newcastle believe their ambitious transfers plans can keep Anthony Gordon

To that end, The Northern Echo have now shared a report detailing that Newcastle are confident of keeping Gordon at the club, despite how his head was seemingly turned.

Mitchell and his staff do not expect Gordon to agitate for a move this summer, even if Liverpool have discussed the possibility of launching a separate bid later in the window.

Newcastle are confident that their own plans for summer investment will help convince Gordon that the club remain extremely ambitious, despite failing to qualify for continental football.

Last campaign does seem a slight anomaly in that regard, a season ravaged by injuries.

But with their squad fit and Sandro Tonali back from his ban, there’s every reason to believe that Newcastle will be a huge success this year.

In terms of players arriving, Newcastle are considering a renewed £30m bid for James Trafford, who could still be signed despite the club adding two keepers already.

Anthony Elanga’s name refuses to go away too, a player who was reportedly requested by Newcastle during negotiations for Elliot Anderson.

And despite being unsuccessful on that occasion, Newcastle could still launch a fresh bid for Elanga.

It promises to be a busy July and August for Newcastle United who still have much to do, but importantly it seems they are still confidently planning ahead with Gordon.
