Paul Merson urged Liverpool to raid Arsenal in 2018 and land midfielder Aaron Ramsey, claiming the Welshman would vastly improve the Reds’ title credentials – and now a potential move is on the cards, according to reports.

Ramsey, 29, has since moved to Italian champions Juventus from Arsenal last summer – but has struggled with the Old Lady. Starting just 12 of his 24 appearances for Juve, Ramsey has scored four goals but looked a difficult fit in a Juve shirt.

The former Cardiff City midfielder could now leave Juve this summer given he is earning an enormous £400,000 a week, but clearly not replicating what his wage would suggest. Reports claim Liverpool are one of a number of sides interested.

Indeed, football website Transfer Market Web say Manchester United want Ramsey and could use Paul Pogba to land the midfielder. Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are also mentioned – and  Merson suggested Liverpool should sign him in 2018.

“If Liverpool want him they might as well do a deal now. He would fit in and he would help them challenge for the title. Whoever gets him will be getting a very good player. He makes good runs, scores goals, and has the vision to pick a pass,” Merson told the Daily Star, two years ago.

TBR’s view – Ramsey would massively improve Liverpool

Especially with doubts over the futures of Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum, while Adam Lallana looks almost certain to leave with his contract expiring in June. A goalscoring midfielder should be at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s shortlist.

Ramsey, who scored 65 and created the same amount during his time at Arsenal, could be available on the cheap given Juve will be desperate to offload him – because of his pay cheque. Liverpool have got to take advantage, and listen to Merson.
