Paul Merson is convinced that Darwin Nunez will start for Liverpool in their big game against Manchester City tomorrow.

The Reds are already 14 points behind Arsenal, who are on top of the Premier League table at the moment. The game against the champions tomorrow is one they simply must win, and their big-money summer signing could well be the man who’ll make the difference.

Paul Merson thinks Darwin Nunez will start for Liverpool vs Manchester City

The last time Liverpool faced Manchester City was in the Community Shield three months ago. Nunez introduced himself to Reds fans with a late goal to help them lift the trophy.

Three months on now, the 23-year-old Uruguayan’s form is incomparable to his City counterpart, Haaland. The Norwegian has set the stage on fire, but the Liverpool man has had more than one problem to deal with.

However, Nunez has now scored in each of his last two games for the Reds, and Merson believes there’s no way Jurgen Klopp will drop him against Manchester City tomorrow.

The pundit wrote in his column on Sportskeeda: “With Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez hitting form, the front three have suddenly come to life for Liverpool.

“With Luis Diaz injured, however, someone will have to fill in on the left.

“It’s hard for players to play out of position in big games., but I don’t see how you can keep Nunez out of the side.”

If there’s a game for Nunez to step and get the job done for Liverpool, it’s against Manchester City tomorrow.

The Uruguayan was brought in from Benfica for a club-record £85 million (Sky Sports) and he hasn’t delivered yet. It’s never easy for a foreign player to come to the Premier League and hit the ground running, but he needs to start firing if Liverpool want to be anywhere near the top of the table.

Nunez has looked a lot better over the last week or so. His movement has been really good and as long as he keeps doing that, he will get chances to score.

It will be interesting to see what will happen tomorrow, but if Nunez can find the net to help his side win the game, everything that has happened over the last two months will be forgotten.
