Paul Merson has told Sky Sports’ The Football Show (Monday, 10.55am) that Newcastle United’s potential new owners should consider a move to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
Amanda Staveley looks set to finally purchase Newcastle from Mike Ashley, as her PCP Capital Partnes are backed byYasir Al-Rumayyan’s Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. The latter is expected to become the new chairman of the club.
Meanwhile, Staveley’s group and The Reuben Brothers will both own 10%, and many have already started speculating who Newcastle will buy this summer. The likes of Arturo Vidal, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho have been mentioned.
Asked who Newcastle’s imminently new board should consider, Merson responded by suggesting Aston Villa ace Grealish – claiming that Newcastle need a midfielder who is brave on the ball in between the lines.

“You’d have no chance with Kevin De Bruyne or Bruno Fernandes, but I would sign Jack Grealish,” Merson said. “When I watch Newcastle play, they haven’t got enough brave footballers.
“I played against Newcastle many times, and it was always keeping the crowd quiet. For me Jack Grealish would tick the boxes. One he would entertain and two he would like to get on the ball. Definitely, I’d take Grealish.”
TBR’s view – Could Newcastle lure Grealish to Tyneside?
On the verge of an England call-up, Grealish has been in stunning form – having a hand in 17 goals during his 31 league and cup appearances this season. Not only has he improved in front of goal, but Grealish has carried a beleaguered Villa side.
However, as per ESPN, Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are desperate to sign Grealish and could do so if they meet Villa’s demands of £60m. It remains to be seen how Newcastle will approach the market, if their is a new board in place.
