Paul Merson has suggested that Arsenal could finish between fifth and eighth in the Premier League table next season.

The Gunners legend believes the top eight of the league will effectively be two mini-leagues.

Merson thinks Arsenal will be part of the second mini-league, along with Leicester, Spurs and Everton.

Arsenal not ready for top four yet?

The Highbury icon feels the top four are head and shoulders above the rest of the division.

“There’s a big gulf of class between the top four sides in the Premier League and the rest,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“So the title race could boil down to who wins the mini-league between Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.

“There is another mini-league involving Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton that could decide the rest of the European spots.

“I can’t see any of the bottom half teams getting points from the top four in the 2021-22 Premier League season.

“I’d be really shocked if that were to be the case.”

Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

They have set about bolstering their ranks in hope of a better 2021-22 campaign.

The Gunners have signed Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Brighton defender Ben White is apparently closing in on a move too.
