Paul Merson has claimed that Tottenham’s Harry Kane has the edge when comparing him to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Kane, 27, is the talisman at Premier League clubs Spurs, as well as England captain.

The centre-forward has been in remarkable form this season so far, netting 27 goals and setting up 16 assists in 40 games across all competitions.

Pundit Merson feels that he even has the edge over Lewandowski, who was named The Best FIFA Men’s Player for 2020.

Lewandowski, 32, is five years older than his Spurs counterpart, but the striker is for some people the best conventional forward in the world.

He’s sensationally scored 42 goals in 36 appearances so far this season in all competitions.

“Robert Lewandowski won the award for the best player in the world last year. But he’s not as good as Harry Kane,” Merson wrote in the Daily Star.

“He’s only ripped it up in Germany. Kane is doing it in the Premier League. And I can’t remember Lewandowski touching the ball at the last World Cup. But Kane won the Golden Boot.”

Neutral fans will get to see Kane and Lewandowski pitted directly against each other next week, as England face Poland in a World Cup qualifier.

It’s an intriguing debate when discussing the best, and it’s worth noting the Spurs frontman perhaps looks overall a more gifted footballer in terms of his extra creativity.

But Lewandowski’s goal record is on another level, even to someone like Kane.

Kane has a superb goal ratio of 0.58 during his senior club career, while Lewandowski’s is 0.72 in his.
